Fostering K-12 Design Education: Young Creative Agency

Have you heard of the Young Creative Agency? AIGA New Orleans spent part of our summer supporting this amazing, local K-12 design education initiative!  Alberta Wright, founder and head of the program recapped this summer’s events for us below.

Young Creative Agency’s Summer Design Studio at the Youth Empowerment Project is a success!

YCA and YEP provided paid work experiences for nine youths 4 days a week from 12-5:30 every day in an intensive studio experience guided by two experienced design professionals. Students learned fundamentals of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, how to engage in critique, and pitch their ideas.

By our second week, we started two client jobs: recruitment fliers and presentation decks for YouthRun NOLA and a logo for Houston-based Brand Premier Events. As we conclude our last week having delivered six successful deliverables for clients, Faith, one of our Young Creatives, observed that “before anything great is achieved, your comfort zone must be disturbed.” We can all attest to a summer of challenging and rewarding growth!
